Abstract

Purpose : This study was designed to search for nursing intervention strategies centering around general meaning structure and essential meaning of the PBL experience of freshmen.

Methods : The participants were 16 students in Cheju Halla College who had experienced at least 6 months in
school. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and were analyzed using the phenomenological methods proposed by Giorgi.

Results : The results were divided into the following principle categories: 1) repulsion 2) acceptance 3) relationship 4) growth. Students experienced unwelcome attention at first. As time went by, they adjusted to the PBL class and felt it was interesting, and provided satisfaction, diversity, cooperation, consideration and friendship. The primary meaning for them was ¡¯growth¡¯ including initiative, confidence and inner change.

Conclusion : The finding of this study will offer profound information on the PBL experience of freshmen and provide basic raw material for improving the PBL and contributing to the development of tutor skills.
